Is it possible to develop ADHD in later life? It's possible I may be
suffering from it (from a self diagnosis) as I can't seem to
concentrate on anything these days

Depression is a more likely cause for that particular symptom. If you have
any serious negative change in the way your mind or body work then start
by seeing what your GP makes of it.

Oh, I'm not depressed, far from it.

Depression is not 'feeling down'. Depression is a physical condition, caused
by a chemical imbalance. While 'feeling down' is one of the symptoms, it's
not the only one and it's not always present.

Right. Since Hull Kingston Rovers are now Super League bound, should we
attempt another afp rugby league meet for their first match at Harlequins.
With a year to prepare it ought to be possible to civilise at least some
soft southern afpers enough to introduce one or two to the not actually
beautiful as such game. As played by a team who have managed to avoid
having a silly name foist upon them. :)

Alas, I am once more a tough northern afper, so it would involve a bit of a
hike. Also, I appear to be allergic to London because every time I've gone
near the place recently, I've either come down with flu or my ME has flared
up to a ridiculous extent.

Then again, who knows where I'll be by the time the match is actually on?

Not as far as I am aware. Current theories suggest it's a congenital
condition present at birth. One possible test might be how you perform
when the pressure to complete a given task is increased. In ADHD
children, reinforcing or strengthening commands actually exacerbates the
symptoms creating even more erratic behaviour. Where there is another
root cause, reinforcing commands is more likely to result in increased
conformance.

As others have said, stress or depression are far more likely causes -
especially if it's a relatively new problem. Even something as simple as
chronic over-tiredness will make it almost impossible to maintain
concentration. If you're worried, get it checked out by your GP but in
the meantime, make sure you get plenty of rest and focus what attention
you have on things you enjoy whenever possible.

Probably not. It could be anything, up to and including Early Onset
Alzheimer's (which often hits in the 30's, unlike the "common" Alzheimer's),
AIDS dementia, late stage syphilis or Lyme disease, Creutzfeld-Jacob's
Disease, or a bunch of other things.
In other words, I wouldn't worry too much.

I think possibly it's an over reliance on caffeine, as he warned me
about that before. I switched back to deaf for a while, but started
getting bad headaches. These stopped after a while, but then they
came back again, so I started on the caffeine again.

That would be withdrawl symptoms from the caffeine addiction.
Don't just switch cold turkey, cut down the amount of caffeine slowly, and
the headaches are less of a problem.

Nah, you misunderstand. I did cut down slowly and things were fine

I understand perfectly; been there, done that, rediscovered sleep. 8-)

If the headaches start a long time after the caffiene's gone totally, then
they could be something else. If it's a day or two, then you're going to
have to live with them.
Maybe increase the caffiene dose a little for a few days, then drop it off
again.

You're trying to sort out body chemistry, which is always a tricky
problem.

How about starting with something simpler?
Like, maybe, vitamin deficiency?

I had a bad case of B12 deficiency combined with anaemia in my high
school senior year. Symptoms included bad temper, lack of concentration,
exhaustion, short term memory loss and various other things. Probably
headaches too (as in, I remember the headaches, I just don't remember if
they were because of the B12 problems).

My suggestion would be to ask your doctor for a _complete_ blood test
done, anything and everything that could be wrong. It will, if nothing
else, help eliminate possible problems.
Chances are that any problem in body chemistry you have (including
caffeine addictions and other things) will show up, and you can go on
from there.

Also, having the odd cup of weak tea helps, without adding too much caffeine

I've had persistent headaches for the last year or so, on one occasion bad
enough to pass out from. I take ibuprofen once a day in the morning to
ward off the start of one. I'm *not* medically qualified so that is *not*
a specific recommendation to you.

However as ibuprofen (apparently) works by reducing inflammation, your
doctor might prescribe it to control the headaches while investigating
them. It was useful to me because I was better able then to describe to
the doctor how the headache progressed, slowly rather than *bam headache
collapse* which is not so helpful.

I used to do that so often. I've actually started turning up to the doctors
now with a small notebook so I can mention everything.

There are many causes of persistent headaches, most of them not sinister at
all and easily treated. I guess by now you will have seen your doctor - I
hope all is well.

Yeah, things are fine at the moment, not that I've worked out what was

I'm convinced that stuff is bad for humans. If I drink one cup of decaf,
